If I add a new position, which allocation gap should it fill?
An allocation question asks how a portfolio is divided — by asset class, sector, region or currency. What counts is the weight of each slice against the total, and the look-through into funds: an ETF is not one holding but hundreds.
Worked through on a sample portfolio. The figures below are that portfolio’s, not yours.
I can show which buckets are currently underweight vs your targets so you can see the gaps. Here are the biggest allocation gaps between current allocation and target (by instrument type):
| Asset | Current allocation (%) | Target allocation (%) | Gap (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| ETF | 31,21% | 51,07 | -19,86 |
| Crypto | 8,61% | 10,59 | -1,98 |
| Stock | 49,09% | 38,35 | +10,74 |
| Cash | 6,06% | 0,00% | +6,06 |
| Precious metal | 5,03% | 0,00% | +5,03 |
What this table shows
- The ETF bucket has the largest shortfall: current allocation is lower than the target by -19,86 percentage points.
- Crypto is slightly below its target by -1,98 percentage points.
- Stocks, Cash and Precious metal are currently above their targets by the amounts shown.
Notes
- Allocation coverage for asset classes is complete where shown.
- These figures use your current portfolio values and the targets available in your data.
